India Expands Semiconductor, Electronics Manufacturing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that three semiconductor plants (Micron, Kaynes, CG Semi) have begun commercial production under Semicon 1.0, with 5-8 more expected in the coming years. The Semicon 2.0 program, approved in July 2026 with a ₹1,27,500 crore outlay, further strengthens India's semiconductor design and manufacturing ecosystem. The PLI scheme for Large Scale Electronic Manufacturing has attracted ₹96,000 crore in investments.
