Government Mandates DPDP Act Compliance
Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan directed Union ministries, state governments, and Union Territory administrations to create time-bound implementation plans for the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. This directive, issued in August, initiates a government-wide effort to identify personal data, examine processing methods, and establish institutional accountability for compliance, following the notification of DPDP Rules in November 2025.

UPI Expands Limits, Global Reach
On August 24, 2026, UPI introduced "UPI Circle" for secondary users with predefined transaction limits. RBI increased the UPI transaction limit for tax payments from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh, extending this to capital markets, IPOs, loan collections, insurance, healthcare, and education. The per-transaction limit for UPI 123Pay was raised to ₹10,000, and the UPI Lite wallet limit increased to ₹5,000, with a ₹1,000 per-transaction limit. UPI is now live in 11 countries, with Greece and the Maldives recently adopting it for cross-border remittances.

Indian Startups Secure Key Funding Rounds
Between August 24-29, 2026, several Indian startups secured significant investments. Third Wave Coffee raised Rs 408 crore (approx. $49M) in a round led by WestBridge Capital. Skincare brand Asaya secured Rs 88 crore (approx. $10.6M) in a Series A round led by RPSG Capital. Deeptech company WATER raised $2.5 million led by Endiya Partners, and digital spiritual wellness platform InstaAstro secured $12 million in a Series A round led by Singularity AMC and Artha Venture Fund.
